On Monday October 6th, in an auction of colossal proportions dubbed "a once in a generation chance" to own one of the most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex skeletons that has been discovered, Stan the T-Rex shattered the record of most expensive fossil after being auctioned off at Christi's for a whopping 31.8 million dollars. Talk about Sparing no expense!

Stan is one of the most complete T-Rex skeletons ever found. He was found in the Hell Creek Formation in 1987 by armature paleontologist Stan Sacrison and was excavated by a Black Hills Institute team headed by Peter Larson. Larson led expeditions on other tyrannosaur excavations such as Sue and Trix. He is believed to be a male due to his narrow hips. Female tyrannosaurs, like many other animal species, had wider hips.

Widely regarded by paleontologists as the best preserved and most complete tyrannosaur skulls, Stan has allowed scientists to learn a lot about T-Rex cranial bone movement (cranial kinesis.) Stan is one of the most seen T-Rex skeletons (cast skeletons) around the world with more than 60 being in museums around the world. He is a really amazing creature that undoubtedly will continue to inspire young and old dinosaur enthusiasts around the world.
