Global News by T-Rex Paddock Staff       An aspiring, young Canadian paleontologist, Nathan Hrushkin, has made what one expert in the field has described it as filling "a gap in the knowledge of dinosaur evolution. The 12 year old student from Calgary encountered this rare find earlier this year in Horseshoe Canyon, which is in the Badlands region of Alberta.  Globe News The young scientist was on a hike with his dad in June this year and spotted the fossil jutting out of the ground. He took pictures and contacted the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology in Drumheller Alberta. Dr. Therrien, the curator of the museum, responded to their email and notified them that they had found the fossilized remains of a young Hadrosaur. Dr. Therrien says that this is such an important find because relatively is known about dinosaurs that lived in what is now western Alberta during this time of turbulent climatic activity.  Another important thing that young Nathan...

Scientists say they've solved 159 year-old dinosaur feather mystery

Image
By  Alec Fenn   Scientists believe they have settled a dispute going back 159 years, by showing that the first fossil feather ever discovered belonged to a flying bird-like dinosaur called Archaeopteryx. The origin of the fossil, which was unearthed in Berlin back in 1861, has puzzled scientists ever since, with experts attributing it to a host of different dinosaur species - but now believe they have a definitive answer. A team of scientists at the University of Florida led by lead author Ryan Carney have unearthed new conclusive evidence that they say confirms it belongs to Archaeopteryx. Scientists say the oldest fossil feather ever discovered belongs to a flying bird-like dinosaur called Archaeopteryx following the conclusion of a new research project./Ryan Carney.   The scientists found that the fossil matched a type of wing feather known as a primary covert that covers other feathers and helps to propel birds into the air. The team examined nine different elements o...
